Finding appropriate treatment for OCD is equatable to seeking a needle, a very, very small one, in a haystack. There are millions of mental health providers out there, however, very few are properly trained to treat OCD. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a must as it has shown great success, over the last few decades, in reducing symptoms of OCD. Who knew my journey to find the diamond in the rough would take me almost 10 years.
It’s 2006, I was a sophomore in college and having the time of my life, or at least I was supposed to be. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed a lot of laughs and good times, but, boy, do I wish I had the experience and knowledge I do now. A shattered mirror, a broken cellphone and a computer chair flipped on its side… who was I? These unexpected angry outbursts, quickly helped me identify that I needed help. But for what? And from who?
A quick call to the campus medical center, an appointment on the books; I was all set…or so I thought.
